Elegant | Primitive – SOFA Chicago 2011

Preston Singletary Glass is proud to announce our SOFA Chicago 2011 exhibition, presented by Blue Rain Gallery – “Elegant | Primitive – A Collaboration with Preston Singletary and Dante Marioni.”

This unique exhibition combines the talents of Preston and his longtime friend and colleague:  together they have produced pieces that meld their talents of Tlingit design and classic Italian cane work.

Here are just a few of the pieces that will be on display in Chicago November 4-6.

    Dear Mr. Singletary,

I became acquainted with your work this past summer at NMAI in NYC. I was thrilled, because I do a Tlingit art project with my 5th graders as the beginning of our artistic exploration into the cultural use of line and shape in craft (Native American work fits into their social studies curriculum, so we explore NW & SW over the school year.). Anyway, as I can no longer take them on a field trip to visit the exhibit we will be looking at your website tomorrow, and discussing how your work relates to the Tlingit designs we have seen so far…. I would love to be able to do two things: 1) send you the children’s questions or a letter that we have composed to you as a class, and 2) send you a copy of our Tlingit inspired animal drawings and stories after our unit is finished – will probably be later this month/beginning of December. As I cannot find another way to communicate with you you, I desperately hope that you will receive this comment and reply to my email address.

Many thanks & many blessings –
    Jen Spence
