Art Focus: Weaver's Welcome

1st April 2021

The Weaver’s Welcome sculpture was created by artists Brian Perry (Port Gamble S'Klallam), Anthony Jones (Port Gamble S'Klallam), David Franklin, and Preston Singletary (Tlingit) and is currently on view at the Burke Museum in Seattle, WA.

This figure welcomes guests to the Burke Museum in the tradition of similar iconic figures that have stood on the shores of the Salish Sea for generations. Symbols used on this piece are found in many historical objects in the Burke's collection, including baskets and carvings.

The Burke Museum is currently open to guests and Weaver’s Welcome can be viewed at the Lower Lobby, which showcases Washington state pieces from the three major areas of the Burke Museum collections: culture, biology, and paleontology.
