The Place Where You Go to Listen

Traver Gallery

Visit the exhibition "The Place Where You Go to Listen" to see a new collection of blown glass sculptures by Preston Singletary at the Traver Gallery, on view from April 6th - April 29th, 2023. Celebrate the Exhibit Opening with Preston Singletary at the Traver Gallery on Thursday April 6th.

Join Preston Singletary and Gallery Director Sarah Traver for a special conversation and exhibition walkthrough in this video of the exhibition.

The Traver Gallery notes, "This compelling show builds upon an extremely pivotal year in Preston's career. The twenty sculptures presented in this exhibition are personal and contemplative in their themes. Preston continues developing his techniques and narratives, exploring how traditional indigenous stories may evolve to reflect the contemporary world."

Singletary says of this new work, "This collection of pieces reflects on a song we wrote with my band, Khu.éex'. It describes a person going to a place in nature where they become attuned to everything around them, finding the stillness in mind to allow creative ideas to come to them. This concept is what I want to convey with my work this year.

Many of the pieces explore new techniques I’ve been developing, such as encamo, sculptural forms and compositions, as well as expanding on stories of Thunderbirds, Eagles and an anthropomorphic Raven standing in the midst of rising tides."
